Product Description
The factory Top Mount Intercooler (TMIC) on the Mazdaspeed3 is basically a food warmer. It sits right on top of a blazing hot engine, and after one hard pull, it’s heat-soaked. The COBB Tuning Front Mount Intercooler solves this by moving the cooling core away from the engine bay and placing it dead-center in the bumper’s airflow.
Most FMIC kits for the Mazda platform are a nightmare to install. They require you to cut your bumper support or ditch the crash bar entirely. We refused to compromise your safety for horsepower. The COBB FMIC fits with the stock crash bar in place. We also revised the piping geometry to clear the frame rails and oil lines, making the install painless. We even addressed the weird quirk of the Speed3 transmission: the stock shifter weight likes to bang into aftermarket piping. We solved that by including a Custom Lightened Shifter Weight in the box, giving you clearance and a snappier shift feel.
We used a high-density Bar and Plate Core with cast end-tanks (featuring the COBB logo) to maximize thermal transfer. Whether you are stuck in traffic or hot-lapping at the track, your Intake Air Temps (IATs) stay pinned near ambient. This means your ECU won't pull timing, and you get full power every single time you hit the gas.
This is the most complete intercooler solution for the Mazdaspeed3. It integrates perfectly with the COBB SF Intake and is fully supported by our Accessport Off-The-Shelf Maps. You don't need a custom tune to run it—just bolt it on, flash the map, and enjoy heat-soak-free boost. Over, and over, and over again.
