The VB WRX is a fantastic platform, but the factory top-mount intercooler is a heat-soak magnet. Traditional Front Mount Intercoolers (FMIC) solve the heat issue but often introduce "lag" because of the long piping required to route air across the front of the car. COBB Tuning solved this engineering dilemma with a clever twist: Vertical Flow.
Instead of forcing air horizontally across a long core, this system uses a Garrett Core that flows vertically (bottom to top). This design allows for end tanks that taper to create even pressure distribution. More importantly, it allows the piping to take a shortcut behind the passenger bumper. By shortening the physical distance the air has to travel, COBB achieves the cooling capacity of a race core with the throttle response of a stock car.
